SONS OF SUN – ELVIS, JERRY LEE, JOHNNY AND ME (The Sam Phillips Story) is a wild rock and roll play about Sun Records, Memphis, and the artists that started their careers there. After a rapturous response to the show in May 2014, Sons of Sun returns to the Flying Saucer Club. Told through the character of its founder Sam Phillips, his assistant Marion Keisker, and the famous musicians that Sam recorded, this Australian show features a three piece live band fronted by John Kennedy, performing excerpts thirty-five songs from Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and many more. Building on the huge success of last year’s Anzac Day, this year Caulfield RSL is extending its tentacles to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli. Victoria’s biggest two-up ring, bars and first class performers will headline the entertainment from midday through until 6.00pm. Mick Thomas & The Roving Commission will hit the stage around 4.30pm. Mick is widely known as a brilliant lyricist with the capacity to tell really good stories and sing really great songs. He is a born character who’ll talk the leg off an old chair, play the living daylights out of his sweet guitar, sweat the shirt off his back, all whilst having us all rollicking in laughter.


Shannon Bourne presents "Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold As Love"

Following on from a stunning re-creation of Jimi Hendrix's debut album at the Flying Saucer Club last year, Shannon Bourne returns with his band to showcase Hendrix's 2nd album, 'Axis: Bold As Love'. Shannon reflects: "A natural progression from our 'Are You Experienced?' show comes the "difficult' second album…'Axis: Bold As Love'. I remember my sister buying me "ABL" when i was 14 and was instantly taken by the albums breadth of material and guitar tones. From crystal line cleans to "amps about to explode" fuzz, from incredible rhythm guitar to highly melodic leads… Then there's the song writing! From the hard riffage of "Little Miss Lover" and the brit pop of "She's So Fine' to the soulful "Little Wing". Its amazing to think that Hendrix could move so quickly and develop as an artist in such a short space of time. He accomplished so much with his time and his guitar continues to "howl" across the ages." Shannon and the band will play this album in its entirety whilst also re-imagining some of the better known tracks. Guitar enthusiasts unite!

Hugo Race, formerly of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and The Wreckery and now an internationally based producer and performer, returns to the Flying Saucer Club after last year’s much adored performance of The Doors’ L.A. Woman album. Hugo now has a new show presenting the musical artists that influenced him. Hugo and his band, The True Spirit will explore the musical heritage of the delta blues, the psyche rock of the sixties and classic seventies selections including songs by Can, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Captain Beefheart, Roky Erikson, Leonard Cohen, Dr John, the Doors and many more! Rolling Stones Black & Blue Revival

In celebration of the Rolling Stones’ Black & Blue album, a star studded local band featuring Nick Barker, Ashley Davies, Shane O’Mara, Bruce Haymes, Justin Garner and Grant Cummerford are set to perform the platinum album in full at the Saucer in May. The album released in 1976 embraces funk with "Hot Stuff", a reggae cover of "Cherry Oh Baby" and gets jazzy with "Melody". For all the diehard Stones fans out there, the band will also perform a set of other classics to tantalise those musical taste buds. Ross Ryan

Ross Ryan is one of Australia’s original and most celebrated singer-songwriters. His albums have won Record of the Year and Album of the Year awards and his songs have been recorded by performer's as diverse as John Farnham and Slim Dusty. His signature tune, I Am Pegasus - still a favourite of Australian radio - was named by ABC TV’s Love is in the Air as an ‘Australian Anthem’. In 1975, Ross released one of his most accomplished and popular recordings; ‘Blue Chevrolet Ballerina’. A story-in-song centered on the date ‘13th of June’. A day now noted fondly by those who annually remember such things and who also happen to like the song. To mark this 40th anniversary - on June 13 Ross, along with multi-instrumentalist Ken Stephenson and bassist Roy Zedras, will be making their debut at The Flying Saucer Club. Expect an intimate, wry, chatty evening featuring material both old and new, plus of course, lots of references to ballerinas and blue cars. A show not to be missed!
