Bobby Valentine presents “30 Years of Getting Paid For It!”

Bobby Valentine will be celebrating 30 years of music this September and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him celebrate with us on The Saucer stage. Bobby says, “I want to share my experiences and most importantly, my music in all its phases. It’ll be a very eclectic mix of old, new, Jazz, Country, Rock, Blues, Original with tributes to my heroes & influences”. The line-up will include a ripping 5 piece combo that spans 3 decades. This is definitely a show not to be missed folks!

“Easter Thursday 1985, I had my farewell drinks at my old day job & on Easter Saturday I played at The Anchor and Hope Hotel for the first time as a professional musician. I was so caught up in all the things that were happening with my band The Lonely Boys at the time that I hardly noted the realisation of my lifelong dream – besides we only gave it 5 years & then I was probably going to get into teaching!

That was 30 years ago this Easter just gone. As the music business has got harder & harder, I’ve grown to realise what a leap of faith this was; I had a young family, a mortgage and was giving up a promising career in the fledgling computer industry to play in an, albeit wildly successful, sixties cover band! That was so long ago, but I managed to pay the mortgage & support the family all on a musos wage! How special it is to look back, to have lasted this long & to still be doing what I love for a living.

I couldn’t think of how I wanted to commemorate this ‘feat’ – it was always going to revolve around music as my life always has, but the initial thoughts of a cavalcade of the talent that I have shared stage & screen with over the years would’ve meant a 5 day celebration with a passing parade of well over a thousand performers! So I have chosen from those who are still talking to me/are available/even mildly interested, to put together a ripping 5 piece combo that spans the 3 decades & so many aspects of my musical experience”. – Bobby Valentine
