As part of their ANZAC DAY celebrations, The Caulfield RSL will present a special performance by Australia’s biggest pop star of the sixties, Normie Rowe AM. With special guest: GALLIE

Since 1917 the members of Caulfield RSL have celebrated ANZAC day. In the early days during and after the War it truly was a celebration, where the men would gather with those they fought with and whilst remembering those who died they celebrated the fact they had lived. They usually went to the March and then came back the club to meet their mates.

Whilst all the WW1 and many of the WW2 veterans are no longer with us, we want to make this year’s ANZAC Day a celebration for our members and all members of the community and their families, to commemorate those brave Australians and New Zealanders who served our two great countries.

As part of their ANZAC DAY celebrations, The Caulfield RSL will present a special performance by Australia’s biggest pop star of the sixties, Normie Rowe AM.

ARIA Hall of Fame inductee and recognised by the Australian War Memorial as a National hero, Rowe was conscripted into the military in 1968.Most conscripts were selected by a ballot of birthday dates but Normie would find out much later, that his birthday was not one of those that was drawn out. It has been suggested by many, that Normie had been conscripted because of who he was.
He served time in Vietnam, and was one of the lucky ones to return.

Every move of Rowe’s basic training at Puckapunyal took place in the full glare of the media spotlight. He was shipped off to Vietnam in January 1969, and he served his tour of duty there with distinction, rising to the rank of Corporal and was Crew Commander of his own armoured personnel carrier. He was discharged from the army in February 1970. His Vietnam experiences left a deep impression on him, and since that time he has worked extensively on behalf of other Vietnam veterans.

ANZAC DAY activities commence at 7.00am with a short service in front of the club, with Jack Howard performing at the service, followed by the traditional Gunfire breakfast in the dining room. Later in the morning there will be a jumping castle for kids, face painting, a children’s animal farm and a balloon artist.  And of Course it wouldn’t be ANZAC day without a traditional game of Two Up! We have a 10 x 12 Metre giant Marquee being erected in the car park from 12pm with bar meals, an Aussie BBQ and a HANGI throughout the day!

There will not be a charge for any of the activities however The Caulfield RSL will be asking folk for a Gold Coin Donation that goes directly into the RSL’s Welfare Patriotic Fund.
