Sherry Rich & The Notorious Byrd Brothers present “Sweetheart Of The Rodeo”

With special guest: KIM VOLKMAN performing Steve Earle’s “Train A Comin’”

Following on from the recent sold out “Pure Pop Summer of Classic Albums” show Sherry Rich & The Notorious Byrd Brothers will reprise their performance of The Byrds’ classic Sweetheart of the Rodeo album.

Also on this night Kim Volkman (guitarist from Oz punk rock greats X and the Love Addicts) performs Steve Earl’s ‘Train a Comin’ album

The Byrds ‘Sweetheart of the Rodeo’ is one of Sherry Rich’s all time favourite records and she will perform the entire album (including ‘Hickory Wind’ and ‘You Aint Goin’ Nowhere’ plus a few surprises) with the help of The Notorious Byrd Brothers Band – Ashley Naylor on bass/vocals, Garrett Costigan on dreamy pedal steel, Rick Plant on B Bender guitar/vocals and Ashley Davies on the stripped back country rock kit.

Sweetheart of the Rodeo was the sixth album by American rock band The Byrds and was released on August 30, 1968 on Columbia Records. Recorded with the addition of country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons, it was influential as the first major country-rock album by an established act and represented a stylistic move away from the psychedelic rock of the band’s previous LP, The Notorious Byrd Brothers.

Released at a time when The Byrds’ surprising immersion in the world of country music coincided with their declining commercial appeal, Sweetheart of the Rodeo was certainly an uncommercial proposition at the time of its release. However, the album has proved to be a landmark, serving not only as a blueprint for Parsons’ and Hillman’s The Flying Burrito Brothers, but also for the entire nascent 1970s Los Angeles country-rock movement. The album was also influential on the outlaw country and new traditionalist movements, as well as the so-called alternative country genre of the 1990s and 2000s. In 2003, the album was ranked #117 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. A SHOW NOT TO BE MISSED!
