Ashley Naylor presents ‘Younger Than Yesterday: A Live Interpretation of The Byrds’ 1967 Masterpiece’

The afternoon will feature an A-list of musicians headed by ASHLEY NAYLOR (Even, Paul Kelly, Rockwiz), MICHAEL BARCLAY (Livingstone Daisies, WPA, The Messengers), RICK PLANT (Buddy Miller, Mudcakes), SHERRY RICH (Girl Monstar, The Grievous Angels, The Grapes) and MATT PALMER (Carousel, The Youngsters, Raw Nerves).  The first set will see the band perform the album in full, then followed by a second set of Ashley’s favourite Byrds’ related material.

Released on February 6th, 1967 Younger Than Yesterday is considered by many as The Byrds’ greatest work. The album title is derived from the lyrics of ‘My Back Pages’, a song written by Bob Dylan, which was covered on the album. The track was one of three singles that made the Billboard Hot 100 list, along with ‘So You Want to be a Rock n’ Roll Star’ and ‘Have You Seen Her Face’. The album itself ranked 127 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Critic John Nork gave the album a glowing review, calling it “a scrumptious smorgasbord of eclectic musical styles and groundbreaking innovation”, before concluding that “in every sense, Younger Than Yesterday is an utterly brilliant album, arguably the Byrds’ best.” Alan Bisbort described Younger Than Yesterday as “an essential snapshot of an incense-scented, acid-drenched world in motion: a kaleidoscope whose every turn yielded some fantastic window on the age.”
