Soul-Sacrifice-celebrate-‘Santana’s-50th-Anniversary’-@-KINGSTON-CITY-HALL,-Moorabbin

Huge 7 piece band Soul Sacrifice prides itself on authentic reproduction of the raw original Santana sound and will wow you with their musicianship.

The “Santana” album hit #4 on the Billboard 200 pop album chart with the 2nd single, “Evil Ways” becoming a US Top 10 hit hitting #9. The album was the result of manager Bill Graham’s suggestion to write/record conventional “radio friendly” songs as Santana was originally a purely free-form jam band. The band responded but also managed to retain the essence of improvisation in the music and included four instrumentals out of the nine tracks on the album with Jingo, while a chant, containing extensive instrumental passages.
The album is also famous for its cover art depicting an intricate lion’s head….with many other images and heads embedded (how many can you count??).

As a child growing up in Mexico (Tijuana in the later years), Carlos Santana was mesmerised by the Blues and R&B music that was coming over the US border on US radio airwaves. He was playing violin in his father’s Mariachi band so had the Latin side of things down pat before he picked up the guitar. One day he walked into a festival where there were three bands playing simultaneously on three different stage. One blues, one R&B and one Latin. The music merged and fused itself into Carlos’s ears giving him an idea of the sound he wanted to hear….. and play!! This moment can be argued as the synthesis of Latin Rock, albeit he was strongly inspired and influenced by the blues which you can hear in the “Santana” album. Mixing jazz, rock, blues and Latin produced a new sound and genre.

Soul Sacrifice prides itself on authentic reproduction of the raw original Santana sound and we are excited to be paying tribute to this great album.

**The Band **
Soul Sacrifice is a 7 piece band that pays genuine tribute to the great music of Santana. For the band, it’s all about the music and putting on a great show focusing on classic Santana (late 60’s/70’s) with a splash of the later stuff, covering Latin rock, jazz, funk, Latin soul and rock genres. Classics such as Black Magic Woman, Evil Ways, Oye Como Va & Smooth create the infectious grooves and rhythms of Santana. Featuring; Alex Buick (Lead Guitar), German Silva (Lead Vocals, percussion), Linden Compassi (Keys, backing vox), Greg Hayward (Congas, percussion, backing vox), Alejandro Vega (Timbales, bells, percussion), Andrew Tsindos (Bass) and Chris Duffy (Drums).
