Yvette is a well-established and respected member of the Melbourne jazz scene and delighted a full-house audience (and the staff, too!) at The Famous Spiegeltent, with the debut of this program for their 2012 Jazz High Tea series.

This Mother’s Day, be transported to an innocent age of quaint manners and wholesome pleasures. Yvette Johansson and her band, are going to wrap you in their comforter of cosy melodies and delightful ditties, with a selection of nostalgic swing, from the golden age of the 1930’s and 1940’s.

Renowned for her masterful tributes to Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, Yvette now brings her deft touch for classic material to the heart-warming sounds of the vintage era. As they wend their way through the music of Fats Waller, Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington, you’ll be taken back to a time of quality, when popular songs were made to last.

Reminiscent of the small-group sounds of Benny Goodman, the warm, woody tones of clarinet and acoustic guitar, with the added, chocolate-pudding flavour of double bass, instantly create an antique atmosphere and are the perfect complement to the sonorous sounds of Yvette’s velvety vocals.

She and her group of expert musicians -truly, some of the best-quality players in town- will weave their spell of vintage enchantment; carrying you away to an age of cosy afternoon teas and home-baked treats. This is music-to-drink-tea-by; oozing warmth, radiating joy and redolent with old-world charm. If you need some “comfort food” to help you get by, this selection of musical delicacies is sure to warm your toes and your heart. Remember to put your hat and gloves on… and bring your Nanna.

Note to dancers: The organisers will be providing as big a dance-floor as they can and it’s all for you!
