Tex Perkins & Charlie Owen

Ladies and Gentlemen!

How are you? Good? Me? I’m fine, thanks.  In fact, I’m more than fine, I’m fuckin’ great! Why….I hear you ask?  Well, for a start I’ve been in this game for 27 years now – the entertainment industry that is… y’know… the music caper, show biz. That alone is reason enough for me to be pleased with myself.  But apart from what a great life I’ve had, It means I’ve now been around long enough to have my own greatest hits collection; well, let’s call it a ‘best of’…. a retrospective of my most important works… or even, a bunch of songs that I’ve sung a thousand times and can still stand hearing, OR, songs that I’ve noticed people seem to like more than others over the years… Anyway, I think you get the picture.

You probably know of my work with ARIA award winning groove and roots specialists The Cruel Sea, and someone may have told you I was once in a horrible band called The Beasts Of Bourbon, but THIS collection (“Songs From My Black Cattle Dog”) is more about Tex Perkins the singer/songwriter; Perko the storytelling balladeer; Tex the hung over melancholic philosopher… SO if you want Tex the rootsy groover get The Cruel Sea’s best of (“The Most”), or, if you want Tex the angry ape get The Beasts Of Bourbon’s best of (“Beyond Good And Evil”).  BUT, if you want to hear a world weary journeyman spin a few yarns, spill some beans, spit out some bile, spread a few rumours and shed one or two tears whilst stumbling through some of most joyous musical collaborations of his life with some of the world’s greatest musicians (Charlie Owen, Tim Rogers, Don Walker, Murray Paterson, Jim White… to name but a few), then THIS IS the collection for you….

Oh yeah, and I’m playing some shows – wanna come to one??

FLAP!

A fiery yet charming five piece band of brass, guts, words and skins who crank out up-tempo songs feat. JESS GUILLE

‘FLAP!’ yelled Jess Guille to a bird battling headwinds in the stratosphere … and so, as legend has it, the name of this fiery Melbourne band was born. Flap! is a blistering yet charming five-piece band of brass, guts, words and skins who crank out up-tempo songs, turning street shoes into dancing shoes. They play original music that is both old and new, inspired by the entire human diaspora. Influences from 1920s jazz, Gypsy Brass, English Folk and Trinidadian Calypso can be heard peeping through their antipodean veneer. Formed during an informal jam at the 2007 Port Fairy Folk Festival and playing their first gig at the Woodstock Cafe at Christiania, Copenhagen, that same year, Flap! have since become Festival favourites across Australia. Flap! are definitely an ‘up’ band, now veterans of the best of Australia’s music Festival circuit. Fresh from their A Great Day For The Race two-month European tour in late 2012, Flap! are pumped and hot-to-trot.

Rick Price

Rick's top 40 hits include “Not A Day Goes By”, “Heaven Knows”, “Walk Away Renee” and the duet with Margaret Ulrich, “Where Is The Love.”

Australian singer/songwriter Rick Price has walked the journey many musicians’ dreams are made of. From the very beginning, as a nine year old and the youngest member of his family’s band, music was Price’s passion. Since those humble yet defining days, set amongst the backdrop of country Queensland, the self-taught artist has forged an internationally praised and respected career spanning more than three decades.

In the early 80’s Price drove from the small town of Beaudesert, Queensland to Sydney, New South Wales, and almost immediately became a working musician. Starting out as a backing vocalist for artists such as Marcia Hines, Jon English and Dragon, Price eventually garnered major national attention with Australia’s bicentennial anthem, “Celebration Of A Nation,” a duet he performed alongside Keren Minshull.
