Be entertained this July as Jeff Jenkins, lead singer, opens the show with the fascinating tale of how a young 19 yr old hitch-hiked his way from Duluth Minnesota to New York City with a guitar and $10 in his pocket - and went on to become one of the world’s most successful songwriters of all time. Starting from his humble beginnings busking in cafes, ‘DYLANesque - The Bob Dylan Story’ is a 2-hour narrated rock show that leads you through the songs and events that shaped Dylan; his relationships and breakups, religious conversions, the dramatic scenes when Bob ‘went electric’ at Newport Folk Festival in 1965, how he went from playing solo to playing with The Band, through all his incarnations including the much loved Travelling Wilbury's. This Bob Dylan tribute is a theatre piece that takes you on a moving and powerful musical journey. Jenkins performs with an electrifying 4 piece band giving incredible performances of ‘Blowin in the Wind’, ‘Lay Lady Lay’, ‘Tangled up in Blue’, ‘Rolling Stone’, ‘Hurricane’, ‘All Along the Watchtower’ and many more - this is a show not to be missed!

Vince Jones has set the benchmark for Australian Jazz artists since his emergence in the jazz clubs of Melbourne in the late 70s and early 80s. His 20 album, international career has never hesitated in its musical evolution - a career played in the moment. He is that rare genre-defying artist who creates music without borders. From Iris DeMent’s folk 'Our Town' to his original piano heavy, new age 'Wonderworld', he comments, sometimes uncomfortably, about the world we live in from an unashamedly idealistic perspective. His intuitive readings of the Great American Songbook are sensitively true to composer and artist. He is also a wonderful trumpet player. Over time, his style has developed a distinctive reserve and subtlety. He plays a little less and draws a good deal more from it than he did in early days. A brief, thoughtful solo from Vince is worth a hundred notes played with less discretion. Particular about the musical company he keeps, he’s enjoyed playing with the best musicians the country has to offer and his shows at The Flying Saucer will be no exception. He’s in Quartet mode along with three of the country’s finest jazz players; Sam Keevers (piano), Ben Robertson (bass) and Tony Floyd (drums).

The Flying Saucer Club are super excited to have two outstanding bands hit our stage this October. Nick Barker and The Heartache State blew audience members away at their last show with us earlier this year. Joining them on stage and making their debut performance are The Draught Dodgers. Nick Barker and Justin Garner have been playing together on and off for 10 years - Nick producing Justin's band Southpaw's debut album and Justin playing on Nick's last solo record. The last 18 months have seen them hunched over acoustic guitars hammering a bunch of ideas into songs. Justin loves the Allman Brothers, Nick loves the Replacements, so the self-titled album of their new project 'The Heartache State' is a collision of sorts. Adding long-time friend and collaborator 'VENOM' on drums and Michael Hubbard (Downhills Home, Eagle and the Worm) to the mix, The Heartache State was recorded live and quickly with friend Shane O'Mara producing at his Yikesville Studio. Straight out of the swamps of St Kilda, The Draught Dodgers have been making a name for themselves touring all over town. Described by lead singer Jack Davies as ‘the demented love child of Beefheart, the Cramps, the Stooges, the Stones and the Easy Beats’ audiences are expected to get up and sweat just as much as the band does. The band features a respectable rock n’ roll line up with Tim Rogers (guitar), Mick Sayers (bass) and Evan Richards (drums). ‘"All of our respective bands have crossed paths in some way, shape or form. It was Dr. Rogers who decided to form a brethren of complete legends. They're all super talented and an absolute joy to play music with."’ says Davies.
