The JOHN MONTESANTE DECTET is a quality 10 piece Jazz band, that boasts six horns, a matchless rhythm section and additional guest
singers – performing the coolest jazz arrangements in town.

The Dectet had its genesis in Montesante’s stylish, horn-led quintet, (JMQ -formed 1990), which has recorded and performed regularly since – at venues, events and festivals, and is lauded for its longevity and versatility.

In 2013, Montesante added four horns and a guitarist to the core JMQ lineup, to breathe life to his new dedicated arrangements. The band
recorded, before performing the tunes live in concert, with three featured singers. Montesante continued creating new instrumental and vocal arrangements, expanding the repertoire.

Although a large band, the Jazz Dectet is NOT a regular ‘Big Band’, or ‘Trad Band’, but performs JAZZ for those who savour undiluted
virtuosity, outstanding soloists and big horn arrangements of standards and bebop. Don’t expect cabaret either! If you enjoy iconic tunes like Arabia, Close Your Eyes, You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To, Round Midnight, Here’s That Rainy Day, Falling In Love With Love, Dearly Beloved, Stardust and songs of Mark Murphy in the mix – with horn features, then THIS is your bag!

Australia’s finest Jazz Singers perform with the John Montesante Dectet, and this event will showcase the stellar vocal talents of:

FEM BELLING – Aria nominated, stellar international Jazz vocalist.
JOSH KYLE – Outstanding Jazz crooner, featured on ‘The Voice’ (2012)
OLIVIA CHINDAMO – Quality jazz ‘scat singer’ and most recent winner of James Morrison vocal scholarship

The lineup also features some of Melbourne’s top Jazz cats:

Rhythm Section: Dean Cooper, Michael Harding, Frank Di Sario, Jack Pantazis
Horn Section: Shane Hughes, John Montesante, Eric Budd, Tim Wilson, Tony Hicks, Aaron Searle.
