Lowdown-Hokum-Orchestra-&-Burlesque-Review

The Lowdown Hokum Orchestra and Burlesque Revue are bringing their show ‘THAT’S SHOWBIZ’ – A happy marriage of hokum blues and jazz with burlesque to The Flying Saucer Club and hot in their hands will be their new album of the same name. The CD features 10 songs from the production recorded with minimal overdubs at Black Pearl Studios and at LHO founder Doc White’s studio – New Noise Recording in late 2014. ‘That’s Showbiz’ the show is wonderfully unique; blending story-telling, hot hokum jazz and blues with burlesque for a toe-tapping, sexy, one-of-a-kind theatrical experience and features a stellar cast of musicians and performers. It’ll be a hoochie coochie, sexy, saucy, musically driven romp of a show. Don’t miss it!

“Like any good novel or short story, a good song should have a beginning, a middle and an end, and say something that resonates,” founder Doc White says. “With that in mind, I wondered if it were possible to construct a musical experience which used different songs by different writers in an idiom with which I was familiar to illustrate a longer narrative. The songs carry the show and the dialogue provides the general direction the story takes.”

The storyline follows two young lovers and musical partners, whose relationship begins to deteriorate as he runs off the rails, resulting in them losing it all. 25 years later they meet by chance and find the magic and the chemistry lingers still.

The Orchestra features some of the finest Jazz and Blues talent in the land, with Jazz diva Nichaud Fitzgibbon and Blues master Doc White in the lead roles. Paul Williamson, Peter Howell, Tony Martin and Alex Black round out the band, with Mike Rudd appearing as a special guest on vocals and harmonica. Mark Cutler narrates the show.

The bump ‘n’ grind of the sexy burlesque performers Miss Bettie Bombshell, Mimi Le Noire and Minnie Monroe give an edginess to the show, enhancing the emotional impact of each song that ties in perfectly with the theme.

‘That’s Showbiz’ is a hoochie coochie, sexy, saucy, musically driven romp of a show.
