Sun Rising Christmas Show feat. selections from “Million Dollar Quartet”

Sun Rising is back at the Saucer to perform selections from the Million Dollar Quartet as part of their Christmas Show. Music will be performed around an entertaining and informative narrative about this incredible recording studio and label, Sun Records. In December, 1956 at Sun Studios in Memphis, studio owner, Sam Phillips’ latest acquisition, Jerry Lee Lewis, was called in to play piano for a Carl Perkins recording session. Elvis Presley, a former Sun artist and now at RCA, dropped in to pay a casual visit to his old label and Johnny Cash was already in the studio listening to the Perkins session!

So when an impromptu jam session took place with the four musicians, engineer Jack Clement decided he’d be crazy not to record the session – and he did. What was captured that day in that legendary studio is now referred to as the ‘Million Dollar Quartet’.

After performing their critically acclaimed rock and roll show in theatres across Australia this year, ‘Sun Rising – The Songs That Made Memphis’ is excited to announce a spectacular Christmas Rock and Roll show that will be hosted by the Flying Saucer Club on December 20th.

You’re promised an unforgettable night as ‘Sun Rising’ brilliantly relive the amazing music and classic stories of Sun Records’ early years, paying homage to both the artists and Sun‘s owner/producer, Sam Phillips, and possibly the most historical day in pop culture..

A red hot selection of songs recorded by the Million Dollar Quartet; Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins will be performed, plus a set of Sun Rising’s renditions of Sun’s other legendary artists, Roy Orbison, BB King, Howlin’ Wolf, Rufus Thomas Jnr and more.
